The one-woman show will challenge stigma faced by sex workers

A former Skins actor is using her Only Fans account to fund her upcoming show at the Edinburgh festival this year.

Megan Prescott, who is known for her portrayal of Katie Fitch in the Channel 4 TV show, says her one-woman show will challenge stigma faced by sex workers and taboos faced by adult content creators.

The 32-year-old said financing her show by sharing adult content online also highlights the financial barriers inherent in working in the arts. Megan, who worked as a stripper before starting her Only Fans page during the pandemic, said the income has enabled her to continue her acting, writing, and directing career.

The actor is now selling 10 naked images on the platform to fund her show, ‘Really Good Exposure’ at the Underbelly. It is the first time she has sold full frontal nude photos on the platform.

Megan said: “I am immensely proud to use my own lived experience of these industries to highlight the inconsistencies of how we treat workers based on outdated societal stigma and our own internal bias.

“We’ve been inundated with portrayals of sex work in the media, often in projects that had absolutely no input from sex workers themselves. We’ve also seen a number of news stories and documentaries come out recently which highlight the ugly side of the acting industry, but actors aren’t often able to speak out for fear of being ostracised and losing work.”

A decade in the making, Megan’s debut show is partially inspired by her own personal experience of child stardom. The play follows the story of Molly Thomas, a former child star whose fame peaked in her teens.

Realising her career has never matched the dizzying heights of her initial fame, Molly looks towards the adult industry as a way to keep food on the table when acting work fails to pay her bills.

Megan said: “I’m delighted to be able to use my Only Fans platform to raise awareness of my Edinburgh show. Plus I really do need the money to pay for producing the show. Even selling these limited-edition images will only raise half the money needed to put on a month-long show.”

She added: “Creative careers are financially inaccessible to a lot of people, which is why many people in creative industries subsidise their income with sex work - although many cannot talk about it, as the stigma surrounding sex work means potentially losing out on work as a result.”

Really Good Exposure will run from August 1 to 25 at the Underbelly in the Cowgate.
