FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has cancelled all public engagements for the next couple of days after being taken ill with a chest and throat infection.
A spokesman said he had felt unwell after the opening of the Clackmannanshire Bridge yesterday and saw a doctor, who prescribed a course of antibiotics.

Mr Salmond missed last night's Scotland v Argentina football match, which his spokesman said he had been very much looking forward to.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stood in for Mr Salmond at First Minister's Questions at Holyrood today.

The spokesman added: "The First Minister will continue to read government papers in Bute House and hopes to be back to his programme of engagements by the weekend."
