A RAPIST jailed for attacking a young mum in her own home was sent back to court after failing to tell police his whereabouts after his release from prison.
Lee Richardson, 31, used a baby's cardigan to conceal his face during the knife-wielding sex attack in 1997.

He was jailed for seven years and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register at his local police station in Edinburgh once a year after his release.

In April, police visiting his home realised he had missed that year's deadline. He was told to go to Gayfield or St Leonards police station as soon as possible.

In July this still had not been done and Richardson ignored further correspondence. He was arrested and yesterday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court admitted failing to complete the annual sex offenders' registration.

Fiscal depute John Kirk said police had now unusually asked the court to impose a "prevention order" on Richardson.

The exact conditions were not revealed but Sheriff Douglas Allan said he wanted to check the legislation on prevention orders before sentencing Richardson.

A decision will be made on Friday and Richardson was held in custody.
