A DELEGATION of Norwegians is to visit a Capital charity to investigate new ways of dealing with problem families.
The 20-strong group will fly to Edinburgh on Monday and spend two days with Children 1st.

The purpose of their visit is to look at new ways families with problems in the Capital are being dealt with and adapt that theory back in Norway.

The charity's policy of always calling for a family conference before a crucial decision is taken in a child's future is the initiative the delegation are most interested in.

Anne Houston, Children 1st's chief executive, said: "I am delighted to welcome the Norwegians to Children 1st, and to Scotland. We hope they will learn much from their visit, and we look forward to learning from them.

Yes Sven, we're very successful at dealing with problem families. What we do is give them fags, plasma tellies and free holidays for their brats. There are no sanctions to their behaviour. Some people say they should be evicted but we feel that would stigmatise them. We have Acceptable behaviour contracts that they laugh at and ASBO's that mean nothing. We allow them to breed to their heart's content and give them plenty of extra cash when they bring another benefit scrounging waster into the world. You should try it, I'm sure it'll go down a treat in Oslo....

ie, shake their heads slowly and sling the 'theory' in the bin.

I wonder if they'll take the Norwegian visitors down to the burnt-out construction site in Granton to show them just how effectively Edinburgh deals with problem kids?
