ANGRY parents are preparing to fight a "money-saving" bid to cut a class at a successful city primary.
Education chiefs are drawing up proposals to reduce the number of classes at Craiglockhart Primary School from 13 to 12.
But campaigners claim the council is simply trying to help plug the hole in the city's education budget.
Gavin Corbett, ch
airman of the parent council, said: "There is plenty of classroom space, so it's not as if they're cutting back a teacher to save space – it's purely about saving money."
The parent council says the school is already suffering due to having a "badly drawn" catchment area, and that the council should be reviewing that instead.
Fountainbridge and Craiglockhart councillor Gordon Buchan said: "Messing with successful schools is a recipe for disaster. It's going to impact on the quality of education."
But Councillor Marilyne MacLaren, Edinburgh's education leader, today insisted that the move was not about cost-cutting.
She said: "I am confident that resources are being allocated to Craiglockhart Primary School in a manner consistent with every other school in the city."
A meeting for parents to discuss the plans will take place next Wednesday at 7pm at the school.
