Published Date: 22 July 2008
A STRIKER and goalkeeper are Csaba Laszlo's priorities ahead of the new season as the Hearts manager busies himself identifying players who can add vital experience to his squad.
Laszlo is currently working on recruiting new talent following the capture of David Obua and hopes to bring several trialists to the club's training base here in Wiesbaden. He recognises a need for urgent reinforcements in attack, even after Juho Makela joined the squad in Germany today following a loan spell at HJK Helsinki.

The Hungarian told the Evening News that he has a forward in mind but was reluctant to go into detail. He also wants competition for Steve Banks, the club's current first-choice goalkeeper.

"At the moment we have two young players, Jamie Mole and Gary Glen, who need a little bit of time. Therefore, we must bring in a striker with experience who can lead the attack. This is my target just now and this is what I am looking for," said Laszlo.

"I have someone in mind, hopefully we will see him here in Germany. He is European, that is the area we are looking in. We have other forwards like Christian Nade but he is not ready at the moment. He is only doing preparation training so we cannot use him just now. I hope he will be fit enough to play in the next two or three weeks. We will try our best with him."

Laszlo also explained that Hearts' goalkeeping situation is commanding much of his attention. He left Anthony Basso, last season's second choice keeper, in Edinburgh on Sunday in favour of the Scotland Under-21 internationalist Jamie MacDonald. With Banks performing dual roles involving both coaching and playing, Laszlo stressed a desire for fresh blood.

"We have a very good goalkeeper but he has one leg in with the training staff and the other as number one," he said. "We also have a young goalkeeper but I think we need one goalkeeper with experience. Even for Steven, it's very important to know we have a competitor. I hope in the next few days we will have some other players here for trials. I hope we can get maybe two or three players and I have targets in mind.

"We know the players but before we give them a contract and bring them into the team we have to make sure they are right.

"I will get DVDs and videos and I will know everything about the player and his family before we sign anybody."

Obua trained with his new colleagues for the first time yesterday morning at the Rheingau Stadium in Rudesheim. Standing well over 6ft tall, he provides a presence and, as Laszlo explained, adaptability.

"He is 24 and can play on the left in all positions," said the Hearts manager. "He can also play behind the striker so technically he is a very good player.

"He learned a lot of tactics in South Africa. With David we can have a very positive future. He is a young player from Kaiser Chiefs.

"He played three years for them and was one time player of the year in South Africa.

"If I don't know 100 per cent the player and I don't have 200 per cent information about them then I don't take them to the club.

"I know David and this is his first step in Europe, which is very important for his future.
"I know David was three or four years professional and played in Uganda, America and South Africa.

"He knows what it is all about and his attitude and talent are on show for everyone to see. I know he is a very positive guy and he can even be a leader if he sees the chance.

"He was the national team leader and I want people to have the responsibility of him.

"All the time people ask what to do but David knows 100 per cent what he has to do."

i hope we get at least 2 strikers in. the way our luck has gone with injuries and chancers over the past couple of years, there's every chance 1 won't be enough.

laszlo has made comments about waiting to find the right players, players that WANT to play football for this club. quite right big man, no more chancers and wasters.

it's about time the hearts gravy train was derailed.

TOGETHER.

SSH,

Perhaps that would be more effective as a desperate taunt on your behalf if we did not already know a wee bit about the fountain of knowledge that is Lothar Matthaus.

The whole Matthaus thing is getting really tedious now mate, so here...

(From my friend, who is a German and a Wolfsburg fan.)

"Lothar is a national embarassment to Germany every time he opens his mouth, he is a bit like Boris Johnston and we all cringe every time a microphone is put in front of him."

"He was a great player but he is really thick and always makes an a*se of public speaking."

I sat and watched the Germany World Cup draw with this friend and she couldn't bear to watch and she cringed like made the whole time, waiting for him to f**k it up.

Lothar Matthaus: Germany's answer to BO JO... I rest my case.

How do they motivate Nade to do fitness work- get him to run between different greggs outlets?

Or if you attached a stick to the back of his top and a string with a sausage roll attached to the stick he could go on auto pilot... Similar to the carrot and stick approach used for all working donkeys.

Or maybe we could go into administration, sack our players without any compensation (regardless of length of contract) and then start again, using money to purchase new players.

Weren't Murderwell taken to court by former players?

Still, they employ murderers so I suppose that shows the level through there.

Definite signs of the pendulum swinging back again with non-Jambos finding less and less to slag us off about. Debt - reduced, new manager - in place, signing and interviewing responsibility - the manager's. All we need now is for this not to be a Vlad smokescreen and Lazlo to be as competent as he sounds. Oh, and for positive news on the stadium.

"Mawanda To Legalize Bonking

After months of bonking mercilessly, WBS presenter Denis Mawanda Ssunna and new catch Julie Mbabazi have decided to officially become man and wife. Snoops have learnt that the preparations for the introduction are already finished and Mawanda is expected at Julie’s parents’ home in Kamwokya this weekend.

Close pals have revealed that Julie is already pregnant and that could be the reason why the ceremony was organised in such a hurry.

Julie moved into Mawanda’s apartment in Wandegeya a few months back and the two have been bonking as if they are the ones who invented it.

Apparently Mawanda worked tirelessly to impregnate the sexy IT student to make sure that no one snatches her away from him."

Nearly two years of floating in the doldrums and maybe - JUST MAYBE , progress might be taking place.
One positive step would be to actually sign this Obua guy.....make no bones about it ...the "authorities" that will be involved will NOT make this easy for us - especially as the "voters" will be rep's from rival SPL clubs.(Another thing the SPL/SFA needs to sort out - who wants to give the go ahead to a rival's progress?)

If Banks gave up the coaching lark he would have at least another season in him - he is underrated but has lost a shade due to spending time coaching rather than being coached. Good keeper.Have McDonald as his number two - Use the dosh for other areas we need improved.

"Despite the weird and worrying appearance of her hubby, Dr. Kizza Besigye, hysteria has it that Winnie Byanyima looks far sexier than she was while in Uganda.

Winnie looks very tender, sexier, bummy, prettier and her skin has grown very smooth, hysteria has learnt. Byanyima was spotted after jetting in at Entebbe national airport from the US on Friday.

She was in company of smashing babes in the VIP lounge. Meanwhile, we have it on grapevine that Besigye was salivating when he heard of the good news that his bonkmate had jetted in to warm his nights. Way to go Winnie."

And the regular use of the phrase "bonkmate"...

‘Shaft Us!’ Striking KYU Students Taunt

Kyambogo female students begged police for sex and tear gas in a violent strike yesterday.
They chanted: “Police, come and we have some sex, please come and shaft us,” while others chanted: “Where is the tear gas, can’t you guys shaft?” The strike was as a result of lecturers querying administration over unfairness in payment structures.

Police was quick enough to block the students from burning down the senate building. Students however, burnt furniture and destroyed a police pickup.Area police boss Edward Ochom promised to keep security at the university as the administration met to quell the situation.

To be quite hionest most of the comments in here sum up the general state of Edinburgh football as a whole anyway...

Utterly boring close season from both sides in reality (apart from Hearts signing a new "messiah" in Laszlo)...

Really nothing to talk about yet....

For all those Hearts fans crowing on about how they could finish second this year yada yadda yaddity yadda....

bear in mind the words of the late great Ayrton Senna: "to finish second is just to be the first of the ones who lose"....

Wise words... As far as any team outside the OF is concerned the status Quo of chasing the ugly sisters will remain for quite some time indeed IMO.... 3rd is the best any other team outside the OF can play for and I dont see that changing anytime soon... Do Hearts have £3m to spend on one player at present? Thought not.....

Therefore all you or us or any of the rst can hope for is: "to be the second of the ones lose"....

Surely you dont grudge us a little optomism, after the rubbish we have had to put up with for so long, not only from our own club, but from hibs fans. Anything positive happening at Hearts met with anything that could be taken negatively at Hibs at the moment will see resultant jibes etc.

To be fair though you do make a point, apart from Csab coming in and the signing of Obua we havent done a great deal YET, but all the signs are that there is big change on the way. At the moment all we can do is believe what Csaba is telling us, as Vlad seems more than happy with him, if he was stepping out of line im sure he would have been told by now.

Im sticking a score on Mixu being the first for the chop m8, and thats because I don't like him or want to see him go, I genuinely think he is very poor and was starting to show signs of weakness towards the end of last season and will be found out for sure this season. 10/1 probably not a bad price to be honest.

Jury most certainly out on big Mixu, the statements he makes just dont cut it for me & yes his tactical awarness concerns me also.... I'm still prepared to give him a chance though.

IMHO though the knives might not be out so fast for Mixu from the fans as they will be for the board....

However when we turn and vent our spleens at STF & RP they'll just sack Mixu and blame him.... Hey presto two hundred nicker your way......

The Hibs squad has been pillaged beyond belief, we have gone from having the makings of a team that could quite possibly have had at least one good crack at the OF under TM to a situation where we will most likely be also rans for 3rd place.... Its a disgrace and any Hibs fan that thinks otherwise is living in cloud cukoo land IMO...

Ive been saying that since Riorden left Hibs mate. Even for the sake of peanuts in wages really they could have held onto the players, we cant count thompson and brown in that, as that was disgusting how they treated Hibs, they had only just signed 4 year contracts, Hibs could have kept them for a year or 2.

Lets look at this scenario
For the sake of maybe investing 1million into wages to hold onto the players you lost whom you had no option but to sell because there contracts were expiring, ie riorden/o connor and you had held onto them along with brown and thompson, Hibs could very well have challeneged the OF, Cerainly Rangers at least although i dont think Celtic under strachan are that good, certainly no-where near what they were under o'neil.

Had Hibs maybe finished 2nd the prize money would have been much more, so theres some of that 1million paid back. your sponsorships probably would have increased, theres a bit more paid back. The there is the crack at CL football, just say Hibs got really lucky and pulled medicre team out the hat for qualifying and actualy did get through to the CL groups, theres then 10million quid for you right away. Not a bad return for a 1million investment is it?

what's that scraping sound? why it's the sound of the hobos scurrying back down their hole-in-the-ground dwellings.

hearts - exciting times ahead.

hobos - 11,000 going to see barca.

truly the wee team.

aye the problem is there seems to be an inability for certain folk in "green ties" to understand the concept of "speculate to accumulate" or "calculated risk"....

Thats precisely what Romanov did his first season m8, and it almost paid off. Although we all know he shot himself in the foot with his messing about, plus i think he underestimated Scottish Football. He got his fingers burnt and has been paying for it since, now it looks like he may have learned his lesson and is doing something about it.

This is why Hearts fans say all the time Petrie etc have no ambition, and also have a go at some of you guys for lack of ambition because many hibs fans seem to be happy with Petrie and are not doing anything about it.

Hearts & exciting, 2 words you dont often see together.

If you consider breaking out of the top 6 exciting, so be it.

GrahamL,

Thought you might like that one! Great site!

So if the bonking of 'Denis Mawanda Ssunna' is to be legalised then are we to suffer the same fate?

Will Riley's H*mping now be legalised on these threads?

I have added RedPepper to my favs and will search it avidly for news of Sergina and Riley's big day!

Ah just think, Riley will get his wish and actually become world famish... The big day goes to perfection with much gay times had by all and to top it all off?

They sell the wedding snaps to RedPepper for a large fee...

They are the new celebrity couple, like an even less talented Peter Andre and Jordan.

It's funny though how weegies are supposed to be these really funny and cheerie people and yet every one that comes on here usually stops the banter dead in one post with something groundbreaking and banal like: "Rangers are bigger than Hearts, nah-nah-nah"

I quality Glesgay banter right enough mate. zzzzzzzzz

Can you not go and bore the Dundee and UTD supporters every second day or something to spare us the boredom?

To be honest mate it matters not a jot whether you want to hear his opinion or not. You have chosen to go onto a public forum where the opinions of all are welcome.
I appreciate he may bore you sometimes but once you go down the road of insulting people you have lost the right to the moral highground.

Aye, we defo have some eejits on ours. Its actually only a small handfull that manage to ruin it for everyone else.

Look how much of an impact this SPL, Riley character has had on yours. He is the most talked about subject by far. Goes to show even 1 idiot can ruin things.

Hey look mate I know what you are saying but it is just that he has such an unbelievable interest in Hearts and Hibs that I am apealing to him to take an interest in Aberdeen or UTD or something and give us all a wee break from his dull and predictable little digs... Either that or get some new material as his patter is mingin'.

I usually just don't bother replying to him but he just keeps repeating the samr thing over and over to honest he sounds more like he is reassuring himself over rangers' postion in the world rather than telling us anything.

How many times will you resort to abuse when you cannot win an argument? Keep it up and people will think you are really Ian Victor in disguise!

Nae bother mate, i dont always read the Hearts/Hibs threads but iv definitley seen far worse than the pundit. He aint abusive and never goes down the sectarian line some do.

If youl take a comment on Hearts from a weegie ;)

While things are looking up for you lot i think the time when the new manager and Romanov clash heads on something will be a big test to how far you lot can go.
It will surely come at some point.

"I don't post on the Dundee Utd stories as their fans are not on here day after day spouting Big Team rubbish"

What? So you object to us talking about our team on a Hearts thread???

Get a grip you silly wee laddie... if we all have a pseudo telling you how much we recognise the size of Celtic or say so in the first line of our posts will that make you happy?

Seriously you OF boys are the most boring folk around... Can't let anyone talk about anything football related without bringing Celtic and rangers into it... Why on here though??

What is the aim? We are not going to become glory hunters and start supporting them, we don't give a hoot what they are doing and you never have anything original to say?

If the Edinburgh Hibs/Hearts size of team thing offends you so much then go and debate your tea with the rangers fans and spare us the famous west coast banter/boredom.

Celtic: Don't care.
Rangers: Don't care.
Bhouyed: Heard it all a million times before. zzz

Jamboy - You really should find something else to do with your hands, as you seem to get very angry when someone from Celtic or Rangers posts on what you have decided is your forum. May I suggest knitting or if they won't let you have sharp objects, try colouring in.

Keep proclaiming big team status and I will keep reminding you that your team is not!

Im not being funny mate but since iv came onto this thread 3 "weegies" have posted. The only one talking about Rangers and Celtic is you

Im a Rangers fan. I love my club. Im also a football fan who considers himself a reasonable chap and certainly able to talk about other teams.

You have obviously been wound up in the past but you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder. Not unlike a lot of your Eastcoast brethren.

If someone annoys, bores or offends you by all means gie them both barrels. Just try not to generalise.
