HEARTS forward Calum Elliot has entered negotiations with English League One side MK Dons over a prospective loan move from Tynecastle.
Despite interest from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the 21-year-old travelled south to meet manager Roberto di Matteo and is expected to feature as a trialist in tonight's friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

Should he impress, the Milton Keynes club could complete a loan agreement with Hearts having emerged as favourites to secure the unsettled striker.

"I would think they are the front runners for Calum at the moment," said Jim McArthur, the player's agent.

"It's a loan rather than a permanent transfer and he has the chance to show what he can do tonight. MK Dons is a good club and Calum is discussing things with them so we'll see if that develops."

A statement on Hearts' official website yesterday read: "We are aware of interest from a number of clubs and MK Dons is one of them.

"As a Scotland Under-21 international, Calum will be a valuable addition to another club and we will do what we can to create opportunities for him to develop his career."

Good luck to him. The treatment he got from some of the neanderthals was a disgrace, second only to the decision to send him out on loan to Motherwell. They were really struggling at the time, and to expect an 18 year old boy to go there and transform them was a joke. Said before, would have been far better for him to have stayed at Hearts and learnt his trade with the players we had at the time, and see if he fulfilled the potential he obviously had (otherwise we would never have signed him in the 1st place). Sadly we'll probably never know. Too many of our fans jumped on him as an easy target to vent their frustration at a very bad season. Just remember, he was only one player in a large culpable squad, but others have got off relatively scotfree. Don't see the same vitriol aimed at Kingston for example, but for all the hype around him, what has he really done for us, in the words of Paul Daniels, "Not a Lot"

#2 the treatment he got from the hearts fans was exactly what he deserved for his attitude. he played well against celtic two years ago and thought "thats me, made it" and put in zero effort. the worst part being you could tell by his body language etc that he couldnt be a**ed. two league goals in two years suggests to me he isnt good enough. also the loan to motherwell...he couldnt get a game for them never mind transform them but his comment about how hard it was at motherwell as "sometimes he didnt get home until 3 or 4 o'clock" did him no favours. stinking attitude!

as for potential etc lots of young players start at hearts, hibs rangers and are found out not to be good enough to play for the said clubs and so go elsewhere. (eg graeme weir, derek holmes, etc etc)calum showed good potential in that game against celtic but never again looked interested thats why he got booed.

i dont have a problem with fans booing their own players and think they have every right to do so. elliott is like playing with a man down and his stupid sending off against killie shows he has little if anything between his ears. at least kingston wants the ball and tries to win it. elliott just ran about...no sorry he jogged, didnt even get up to a run.

I agree that Elliott's sending off against Killie was stupid, and very much indefensible, but then so were most of the red cards we got last season. Don't agree that he never tried a leg, apart from that Celtic game, but then we're all rightly entitled to our opinion.

Just a thought for you. Kingston appears to have all the ability in the world, but to me, chooses when he can be bothered showing it. Is that really any different from what you accuse Elliott of doing ??

i agree that kingston seems to have so much more ability but how many times was he easily our best player and the only way we looked like doing anything was through him. i think he could do more but seems like last season with african nations and "injury" put a big dent in his season playing for us.

the main thing about elliott is that he LOOKED so disinterested and we will have to agree to disagree on that one im afraid. he didnt try a leg end of in my book. didnt close down, jump for headers...in my opinion a waste of space...but true that he wasnt the only one. i think his play me or ill leave and motherwell chat didnt do him any favours as i think it showed his attitude that he felt he was good enough to just turn up....two years without a goal says otherwise.

The trouble with Kingston is he wants to showboat all the time, the little fancy flicks, beating players over and over again. OK when you're 2-3 goals up, but we were hardly in that position last year. Quite a number of occasions last season, when he had better options available, yet tried, often un-successfully to do it himself. Don't get me wrong, I like him, and a fully focused, fully fir Kingston would be an asset to Hearts, preferrably playing wide right, with Stewart and Jonsson in the middle, and a fully fit Driver on the other side, Stewart fell away after a promising start, but I felt we played what good football we did do last season, early on with Mikey and Eggert in the middle together. Up to Csaba to harness his drive and agression in the proper way.

Lets agree to disagree on Eliott, suffice to say though, there are worse players still at Tynecastle, Ivaskevicious, Nade, Zaliukas, to name but a few !!

think nade is not as fit as elliott but he has more ability and a better football brain. his link up with larry against aberdeen and falkirk was great. think they play well but he is pulling a freight train!! which obvious doesnt help him but as i say think he has the ability. agreed on zaliukas and ivaskevicious.
zaulikas looked good a couple of games but think he just had a couple of good games and went back to his usual level.

trouble is we get fleeting glimspes that these guys are good, i mean ivakevicious scored a good goal against rangers and has scored at parkhead and looked decent but he is a bigger waste of space than anybody!!
comes on and passes it to the opposition. i agree with you that larry on the right is better than through the middle (everyone seems to want him CM) but i read he prefers playing here and we looked good when mikey was playing well but once he fell away and larry went to africa we were devoid of any creativity in midfield.

think cm is good with ruben, mikey and eggert, need someone else to come in though as well as a couple of strikers. egg should be pushed further up in cm though as he showed last season a bit of an eye for goal and not afraid to have a pop. also i dont think he is solid enough to be the holding player.

but roll on next season and see what it brings.

think csaba needs to just get left to decide. glad he took makela as im not sure how much ability he has but he knows where the goals are. think he deserves a chance.

and good luck to elliott if he goes. i wont miss him thats for sure.

Jambo 58. You are one of the few supporters that doesn't think Kingston is our biggest asset.

Kingston you say tried to do too much himself - well who was he going to pass to that he could trust?

Rating Elliot and dissing Kingston - well it's a first.

If you read the posts again you will see that I am not saying Kingston isn't our biggest asset. I said he doesn't show it often enough. I was questioning his commitment, and I think you will find that "i wanna be like John Colquhoun" is saying pretty much the same.

As to Elliott v Kingston. Again read the posts, I feel Elliott was an easy target, and was making the point he was not the only one not "doing the business" and highlighted the fans favourite as one who was not exactly doing it either, remember Kilmarnock ??

we were just having a nice dicussion/debate about hearts on a thread devoid of any gibbering hibernian idiots!! it was rather refreshing!! :o)

i would say kingston is our biggest asset but not sure if needs to do more or if he can actually do any more. whether last seasons african nations etc had anything to do with it im not sure but he wasnt as effective as he was the end of the season before. maybe we raised the expectations on him but he is our best player on his day...no doubt.

but in my opinion there is no elliott v kingston.
one is a class act who wasnt as effective last season but the other annoyed me with his body language and apparent inability to play football. not helped by his i cant be bothered, throwing toys out the pram attitude.
