Published Date: 21 August 2008
HUNGARIAN international goalkeeper Janos Balogh is ready to accept Hearts' offer of a six-month loan deal and wants club officials to finalise his move from Debrecen as soon as possible.
Balogh is currently waiting by the telephone at home in Hungary, where he returned last week after several days training at Riccarton. He failed to agree terms with Hearts whilst in Scotland but said today that he now wants negotiations completed before the transfer window closes.

Speaking exclusively to the Evening News, the 25-year-old admitted he will fly to Edinburgh the moment Hearts call. "I have some things to do here but I am ready to go. I want to sign the contract. I heard some news from my manager yesterday and I think the move is almost certain now," said Balogh.

"Csaba Laszlo told my manager he wants me there and that I have to be ready to fly when I get the call. There is not much time and everything has to be done for August 31. I am waiting for Hearts to call."

Balogh arrived in Edinburgh last week intending to complete the six-month loan but had to return home days later after discussions on the terms of the agreement stalled. Hearts have since recruited the FBK Kaunas goalkeeper Marian Kello, who is expected to make his debut against St Mirren this weekend after Jamie MacDonald's appearance at Ibrox last Saturday.

"We could not agree a deal and I had a flight booked to go home," explained Balogh. "My manager is speaking with Hearts but I am fine with the proposal and, if they want me in Edinburgh, I will come. I want the people in Scotland to get to know my name because I am the person wearing the gloves.

"My goal is to be the number one goalkeeper at Hearts. Debrecen are happy for me to leave."

Laszlo revealed that a deal for Balogh is close. "In recent days the club has spoken to his agent and we are getting nearer.

"I hope we will have a decision very soon," said the manager. "We have Marian Kello and I would like Balogh here too. We have made him and offer but that is not my business."

Meanwhile, Hearts had several players on international duty last night including Scotland pair Michael Stewart and Christophe Berra, who featured in the 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland at Hampden Park in front of the watching Laszlo.

Larry Kingston created a dramatic late equaliser for goalkeeping brother Richard in Ghana's 1-1 draw with Tanzania, whilst the club's Lithuanian players helped their country to a 3-0 win over Moldova.

MacDonald, Lee Wallace and Calum Elliot all played key roles in Scotland Under-21s' 3-0 victory over Lithuania.

• HEARTS announced yesterday that midfielder Kestutis Ivaskevicius has returned to FBK Kaunas following the completion of his loan deal.

it is signing transpires we will have healthy competition for the No. 1 spot.putting 2 + 2 together(& probably making 5) it appears VR saw Banksy as their coach full stop & Banksy thought otherwise.....fully realise that the usual suspects will add 2+2 & make it equal whatever suits their agenda.

10 players on international duty(full/under 21's)...with another 3 or 4 not involved. No doubt in my mind 3rd place is ours for the taking.

Who?,

21/08/2008 12:06:25
So hearts could have 4 different keepers starting each of their first four matches- seems a bit odd to me. Don't know how this is suppose to help attain a settled team or back line but i do trust Csaba to sort it out. I would prefer to keep McDonald as he deserves a chance and a decent run in the team. He communicates well with the defenders which is a must and could well be our next major sellable asset.

I would have thought that a keeper coach would have been the priority after what happened to Steve Banks (which was totally out of order). While the coaching situation wasn't great before now its non-existant and needs to be sorted out.

Our positive start to the season of becoming a"normal" club has come to a grinding halt I'm afraid.

There is no logic in bring 2 keepers in, in the space nof 2 weeks when that area was never a problem.

Banks was a fine goalkeeper, nothing to rave about but he done the job. I'm sure MacDonald will come good given time and matches.

WE NEED STRIKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to be going well so far though, now if only he could send back Miko.

Panic on the streets of London...well doon Easter road it seems.
The worry for me is Vlad has brought some real Hibernianesque keepers to Tynie, so hopefully Laszlo's got more of an idea.
Right now we are in need of a proven goalkeeper and two decent front men, and Csabas on the task.
Roll on Saturday!

The guy I feel sorry for right now is Macdonald... what exactly does this say to Scotland's under 21 GK?

You are good enough to play for Scotland but not Hearts?!

I honestly doubt if their is anything to choose between Kello, Balogh or Basso (who although is free to leave is still on a contract for another year and not been taken by any othe club)... and all of them are probably not as dependable as Banks.

We are shooting ourselves in the foot yet again!

Surely you dont need two new keeper's in the space of a week? Young MacDonald would be an adequate understudy to either I'm sure?

Could be interesting to see which one plays regularly or if this position now become a "political flashpoint" between manager & owner over the coming months!!!
28

Newcastle Jambo,

21/08/2008 12:41:57
#28 I agree with you, I feel we should have stuck with Banks and MacDonald for the next season with a view to MacDonald taking over gradually.

We don't need 4 or 5 goalkeepers. This is like the number of right wingers (or allegedly right wingers in some cases) we have while we have one loan signing and a couple of youngsters competing for the stikers positions.

#28 Hold on a mo, does the same apply for Elliot then? I'm sure theres been some pash played for the U21s in years gone by, judging by QoS Scottish Cup run and a couple of U21 internationals last year, Jamie aint the full package. He played well last Saturday but he has time on his side.
Easy to think because Gordon was so experienced at a young age, that others will follow but we are all different, another year elsewhere might do Jamie and Hearts a world of good.

WTF is wrong with having 3 goalkeepers fighting for a first team place.
Sounds like sound management to me.2 keepers involved match days and the other in the reserves biding his time due to injuries or suspensions etc.

BANKS & McDonald are both OK (and better than anything at Easter Rd) but not IMO good enough to be our NUMBER 1 or to take HEARTS forward.
Are new keepers any better....like everyone else expressing an opinion i have no idea but time will tell.

45

Johnny Jambo,

21/08/2008 13:09:02
I don't know about the need for signing new keepers and yes we do need strikers, however any Manager coming into a club, must, and they usually do, start with preventing goals against so it may be the place to start. But if we are losing goals it's not always the keeper who is at fault so I suggest Laszlo may be looking at the defence as well.

As I said I also agree we need strikers, but not just for scoring goals, we need players who can hold up the ball give the midfield and defence a breather now and again, as the saying goes, we need to defend from the front.
46

The Gorgie Boys Are In Town,

21/08/2008 13:15:11
He plays for his national team and Csaba knows him from his time with Hungary so will no doubt be a good addition to the squad. Makes sense to bring him in and have him for a spell with a pre arranged fee when loan expires. I can still see another outfield signing with the window ready to close. Hopefully another quality player up front.

#51 I think this war chest fallacy was a joke started by a hobo poster way back some time ago.
We all know Hearts cannot afford to spend big and reduce the debt at the same time.
I ust hope we bring in a couple more outfield players, whether we pay for them or not, before the end of the window.

Incidentally I think Stewart did well last night and that could help his confidence for Hearts and maybe help rub off onto some of the ther players.

seems shrewd and logical to me.

I think you will find the the war chest was put about by Ronaldo Stuffed Crust. He began at about £15.0 million, then it became £10.0 million and is currently £6.0 million to be spent now and in the January window. Classic deflation for all the capitalists and right wingers reading.

That means that the Hungarian will be "tried out" at New Douglas Park the following week.

Of all the player in a team - Continuity is required most at the goalkeeping position. HE controls the defence with his voice being the defender's second eyes.
A defence needs total understanding with their goalie.
One very basic example is a keeper's choice of which foot to put a pass back to. With a possible 4 goalies in 4 games how the hell does say Berra remember ?

A slight argument for trying out the keepers is to see how good they are , but as noted before that's what reserve and bounce games are for .

Give es a chance to reply eh? Some of us do have work that needs attending to as well as being a poste ron here.

However, I did review that story in question yesterday and would agree that I got dragged into something and perhaps was a little vecifirous in my replies, If thats upset you then sorry.

However, why dont you ask some of you more esteemed bretheren if they put me in the same class as Serg, TT, Mixu 6-2 or the like? I'm talking about guys like Victor, JJ, Lionheart etc.

Far from me trying to draw attention to myself, perhaps thats actually you by going on an (unjustified) anti Hibbyspurs campaign?

However, yes there is merit in having 3 available keepers and most senior clubs do have so, however up until the weekend after you signed the Kaunas boy you had 3 in him, McDonald & Banks.... For whatever reason Banks is about to be shown the door, the point I was making is that apart from the signing of two goalies in a week there MIGHT be another edge to this Hungarian guy signing in that PERHAPS one is the manager choice & the other is the owners?

All conjecture & hersay to be sure but then again most opinions in football are, wouldnt you agree?

Rest assured I will not run & hide if someone wants me to explain my posts and offer justification for MY OPINIONS.

Regards,
HibbySpurs....

So does that make us all lighthouse keepers? Wouldn't be the first violent thought I'd had about Serg......

What worries me is that little tiny bits of pity are starting to dull the edge of that metaphorical fork. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age.
