HEARTS manager Csaba Laszlo wants to reinforce his squad with a new central defender and right-back, but the Hungarian accepts he may need to wait until January's transfer window for any more new recruits.
David Obua, Mike Tullberg, Marian Kello and Janos Balogh have arrived over the summer but Laszlo admitted to the Evening News that his team requires further improvement in defence.
"I have a wish in two positions and we have a connection to players. Maybe in the central defence position and the right-back position we need to improve. But we could bring in one player who can play in both areas," he said today.
Whilst keen to enlist players with the appropriate character to play for Hearts as soon as possible, Laszlo is happy to exercise patience and will not be unduly concerned if the transfer window closes on September 1 without more activity at Tynecastle.
He continued: "It is not my intention to be very active before the transfer window closes, but maybe something will happen. We are a professional club and you must always look.
"We think about what happens now but you must look at the winter and what movement there will be in the market. We are looking at what we can do in the future because you must always have your eyes open.
"I am not unhappy, we have signed players with quality. If we take somebody new we must check everything about his quality.
"Before we make a decision we must know he is the right player with a good mentality. We have a very young team and I think we must follow the route to take young and talented players."
Laszlo also stressed that any decisions on new players will be taken in tandem with Vladimir Romanov, Hearts' majority shareholder.
"It's important to do things together. Before we have a signature it is more important to talk with the owner," he said. "We are trying to get good players and good quality. Mike Tullberg, David Obua, Janos Balogh and Marian Kello have quality and these are the ones we need. In the future we would like to do the same like we did with these players but we will not make hurried decisions, we want to make good decisions.
"So far we have not brought a lot of new players, we brought only quality. I have a daily connection with Mr Romanov and he is happy about the kind of players we have brought."
