CRAIG GORDON believes Scotland are now chasing second place in their World Cup qualifying section and must take points from group leaders Holland to stand any chance of reaching South Africa.
Saturday's goalless draw with Norway damaged qualification hopes and placed huge emphasis on next year's matches with the Dutch. Scotland are away to Holland in March before a potentially vital fixture against Bert van Marwijk's side next September at Hampden.

Holland defeated Iceland 2-0 in Rotterdam on Saturday evening to top Group 9 with six points, two more than Scotland despite George Burley's side having played one game more.

The Dutch travel to Oslo on Wednesday to play Norway but are now clear favourites to win the section, leaving Scotland and Macedonia to battle the Norwegians for a play-off spot.

"It looks like we're now chasing second," Gordon told the Evening News. "We have a couple of big games against Holland now. We probably need to take something from one if not both of those matches. We're capable of doing that. We've shown both at Hampden and on our travels that we can get results. The game in Norway looks as if we'll definitely have to take something there but our boys are confident of doing that too. We've done it before."

Gordon acknowledged the little margin for error that now exists for the nations pursuing second place. "It's a very tight group and everyone is capable of taking points off everybody else," said the former Hearts goalkeeper.

"We need to put in a very good performance against Norway, but we have done it before by coming away from there with three points and we can do it again. We have three of our last four games at home and we can still do this."

Apparently, Hearts might be making a loan bid for Iwelumo. He should fit in well at Hearts - he doesn't like scoring goals either!!

# 1 The Saint,

Get someone to look up the word 'Punctuation' for you in a dictionary.

# 2 Victorian-Ian . oap Edinburgh district

This is a 'Scotland' story, nothing to do with the JTs, so your comment is not only irrelevant, but pointless.

#4 You can add to that list...Arsen Wenger; Joe Jordan;Alan Hansen and Mark Hughes, who've all stated very recently that Gordon is top quality.
I'm not going to hold my breath for someone to come along and heap the same accolade on Makalamity.

1# Gordon is the best keeper in Scotland, "FACT"
Not only is Craig playing in the best league in the world, against some og the best players in the world he is also only 24 years old and with that time on his side he will be one of the best keepers in the world in a few years with the premiership experience behind his belt.

2# "he doesn't like scoring goals either!!"

What about his hat-trick in the championship? dont they count as goals?

You hobo's really ought to get out more, if only to collect your giro from the post office and a wrap from your local Leith dealer.

You so clearly have a right chip on your shoulder that statistically, Hearts are the superior team. Does coming on here with pathetic little digs give your life some sort of point?

Most of my fellow jambo's don't give a flying f*u*c*k about Hibs...why do you care so much about Hearts?

Don't you have better things to do with your time? Shouldn't you be more concerned about your own team?

Sorry mate, but two halfwits come on and spout dross so we all get tarnished cause of them? Don't think so. Try being slightly more objective.

I'm big enough to admit that Craig's the best GK of his generation. Better than anything we've produced since Goram. I'm also big enough to support any player who pulls on the Dark Blue, regardless of their club. Most decent minded club supporters will do likewise.

So please don't fall in the trap again

heard this point being made at Lunchtime.

Funny how the Ranger Players that are playing regularly for Rangers always call off sick.

And that Boyd who isn't playing regularly, gets released for Internationals.

Thats half the problem, Players haven't got the passion anymore, Bring back Joe Jordan.... even at his age he would have scored on Saturday!!!

Boyd pick up your rattle.

What does Gordon have to do Hearts -he left the sinking ship I mean submarine- He had a great save against " Always Believin" done nowt since- He is not in the same class as Goram, Leighton, Rough, Mcarthur but as someone said he is only 24 so maybe one day.until then --Mcgregor should be No1.

Anybody else think that Kris Boyd is an idiot? who does he think he is? Ronaldo? Does he think scoring a few goals in the SPL for Rangers makes him an automatic international player? Let's face it, it's easier for a striker to score goals at Rangers than it is to score goals at 10 other Spl clubs due to chances created. Any Half decent striker would score goals for Rangers.
Cant believe some people think he would've scored against Norway had he come on, he probably wouldn't have got a touch due to his glaring lack of pace.
At least it opens the door for others who actually want to play for Scotland.
