A SUPPORT group for young people in Edinburgh has received a £10,000 funding boost to help teenagers make the transition from living in care to independence.
16+ Edinburgh, a group run by Barnardo's Scotland, was given the award by the State Street Foundation Inc this week to fund additional support for young people leaving local authority care.

Martin Crewe, director of Barnardo's Scotland, said: "Making the transition from childhood to the adult world is always difficult. Young people who have been in care often lack family and friends who they can look to for support and guidance.

"16+ Edinburgh is there to offer tailored support to ease the transition for young people leaving care. We're very grateful to the State Street Foundation for this substantial donation which will enable us to offer additional support services and equip these young people with the practical skills which they will need throughout their adult lives."

Michael Walsh, head of the State Street Foundation's UK philanthropy committee, added: "We are pleased to support Barnardo's to provide critical skills to young people in Scotland. It benefits not only the individuals but also their communities."
