SPARTANS FC, who are eagerly awaiting the decision from the Scottish Football League on July 3 to see whether they will gain SFL status, were yesterday recognised by the Scottish Football Association for their massive contribution to grassroots football.
Spartans became the first club in the South East Region and only the third in Scotland to receive the SFA Quality Mark Community Club Award.

The award was presented by former Hearts star Neil McCann, now at Falkirk, to Les Atkinson, the chair of Spartans youth section.

McCann said: "It has been an honour to present this award to Spartans because I am a great supporter of grass roots football. I also live locally and on the bigger picture I think that it would be good for the City of Edinburgh if Spartans were to obtain SFL membership."

Craig Graham, the Spartans Chief Executive, added: "The award justifies our involvement with the community in the north of Edinburgh."
