Published Date: 28 March 2008
SWEDISH club Djurgarden are striving to sign Hearts' Lithuanian winger Saulius Mikoliunas before the Scandinavian transfer window closes on Monday night.
The Stockholm-based club intend to reinforce their attacking midfield options and coach Siggi Jonsson has identified Mikoliunas as a potential signing target. Any deal will depend on Vladimir Romanov's willingness negotiate a quick sale, however.

Hearts' majority shareholder arrived in Edinburgh last night accompanied by Mikoliunas, Deividas Cesnauskis and Audrius Ksanavicius following Lithuania's 1-0 win over Azerbaijan on Wednesday.

Romanov is expected to take in tomorrow's vital SPL fixture with Dundee United, which Hearts must win to maintain hopes of a top-six finish. Mikoliunas is now doubtful for that match due to a stomach muscle injury sustained on international duty.

Djurgarden were today remaining coy on their intentions regarding the 23-year-old, who is officially on loan at Tynecastle from the Lithuanian side FBK Kaunas. Paul Lindholm, Djurgarden's assistant coach, said: "I'm not allowed to make any comments regarding new players we are looking at or are interested in."

Sports director Bosse Andersson added: "I will not speak about any names."

Mikoliunas would be expected to command a transfer fee of anything up to £500,000 although any proceeds would be controlled by Ukio Bankas Investment Group, Romanov's primary company which finances both Kaunas and Hearts.

Stephen Frail will be without Christos Karipidis tomorrow as the Greek defender has yet to overcome a back problem. Cesnauskis' is still suffering from the hamstring complain which forced him off against Falkirk last weekend.

"Karipidis is definitely out and Miko and Cesny are doubtful," said Hearts' interim manager. "Miko probably has the better chance of the two. He's done quite well over the last couple of weeks so, hopefully, he can keep that going if he plays.

"This is another massive game for us in relation to the top six. We need to keep the players motivated but focused. We don't want them so fired up that they can't concentrate on what they're doing.

"We didn't cause Falkirk enough problems last weekend and we need to change that tomorrow. The players will be set out to attack from the first whistle to try for the three points, which we know may not be enough in the end."

Frail was hopeful of including Juho Makela in his squad but the Finnish striker has sustained a minor injury and is now rated doubtful. Provided Christian Nade and Calum Elliot, suffering from a pelvic problem and viral complaint respectively, are fit enough, they will play together in attack.

"We have one or two options but, when I look at how well they did together at Inverness, it could be much the same tomorrow," said Frail. "The onus is on us to attack and create things and having Nade back in the squad would be a big bonus."

• FORMER Hearts striker Ricardas Beniusis has moved swiftly to Latvia after returning to Kaunas only last week. The striker's loan deal at Tynecastle was ended prematurely and he returned to Lithuania but has now joined Metalurgs Liepaja.

Hey, its Ms Niceass' birthday today not mine!!!

Quick check, no its not April Fools Day until Tuesday.

No, its too good to be true, not only is he inconsistent, lazy, he has become the symbol of the typical Lithuanian and has been pretty much a large part of the reason why Hearts have been targetted by SFA and media alike.

Whether fair or not, I can only see his exit as a plus for Heart of Midlothian FC.

Frail is a complete and utter idiot if he thinks that Miko has done quite well in recent weeks.

If he truly believes that then he should be removed from his position as interim manager asap.

Got so excited I never read the lot.

Beniusis moved on as well!

Worried about Frails statement re_ being fired up, he made the same one last week and they couldn't have had any more ice on them if they were on the Titanic heading for a cube that wouldn't fit in Andy Fordhams freezer.

Well something is happening, and quickly. Just not sure what. This one is a surprise. I thought that as one of the 'favoured sons' Miko was with us for the duration.

Unless Vlad is thinking of diversifying into club ownership in Scandanavia in the near future Miko is about to discover that his prima donna antics will not go down well in a club where he has to get by on merit alone.

Miko hasn't done nearly enough in his time here for me to get to worried about his departure. he will need to step it up if he goes to a club outside Vlads axis of evil though as he won't be able to go greetin to the romas if he dosen't get a game or if a club captain or manager has the audacity to tell him what to do.

At the end of the day miko, has some talent but the arrangement between him and hearts is not benefiting anyone: Miko dosen't try for eighty percent of the time he plays and is lazy. his attitude gets the fans riled and they end up seeing him as a figurehead to vent their anger at due to his continual involvment at the expense of better options even when he has a mare.
This move would be good for Miko and good for hearts.

serg' are you still here you wee cloning, fake lithuanian weasel... Can't you buy a mirror and sit in front of that talking p4sh all day instead, as nothing you have to say really ammounts to sod all as far as we are concerned.

So.. Beniusis NEVER coming back? Is that right?

As for Miko, part of me still thinks he'll go on to be a decent player, but it's much more likely to happen if he leaves Tynie. The refs still seem to have it in for him round here, and his "Vlads pet" label means theres always going to be doubts from some of the fans. Far better for the boy to go somewhere where he'll be chosen on merit and can succeed - or fail - purely on the basis of his ability.

Miko was probably the best player on the park last saturday. The problem is that last saturdays performance was the best he has given in two years! If he had played like that since he came back from that 5 game ban for standing up to andy davis then the fans opinion of him would be very different.

In the end he is no loss. He is better off the wage bill saving the club some much needed cash. The problem is that hearts have paid him for the last 3 years and will get nothing in return.

Jam Tarts 1874,

How did Banderson get this story - is he related to "Sports director Bosse Andersson"? I think we should be told!

Banderson is really making an idiot of himself with this comment:-

"Mikoliunas would be expected to command a transfer fee of anything up to £500,000 although any proceeds would be controlled by Ukio Bankas Investment Group, Romanov's primary company which finances both Kaunas and Hearts." Banderson really has been watching too many James Bond films.

Romanov has said that he will not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave, therefore I am sure Miko will be on his way because I really can't imagine that Miko wants to stay here.

Chas Niceass,

#14 GrahamL, nail on the head. The Scotland game was a good example, controversy aside, he came on and terrorised us. Not sure if Vlad picks that team as well, I doubt it, I think Miko is a boy who likes life in his comfort zone, forced out of it, if he wants it he could be a decent player.
Whilst living with us though, he'll always fall back into the bubble.

The signs are there that Vlad is positioning himself to have a leaner, stronger squad for next year. The cull started some weeks ago and is continuing with the latest offload of Miko. Long may it continue, as there are 9 or 10 others who should follow? Drastic measures required to add quality for next season.

My thinking is that the timing of the offloads, particularly of the Lithuanians, is to meet with Romanov's arrival and I fully expect some sort of announcement shortly - new manager, quality players etc. Word is that he is getting ready to enlighten us.

seriously though since romonov admitted he was worng, and the rotation doesnt work and he gave frail full responsibility, the man has done nothing wrong. If McGhee or Levein are appointed, we can be sure they will get full control. Romonov was also qouted last week in saying the lithuanian way was incorrect and he needs more scottish blood....then 5 liths depart. things looking brighter?

Well he is reducing the wage bill and realising some capital possibly to provide a transfer fund/signing on fee for a new manager to work with.

But given there's no such thing as a secret in football the lack of any real rumours of impending signings or even a manager don't suggest it's coming that soon.

#25 Too soon to hope really but some indication from Vlad as to his short-term team plans would go a long way to quelling the fans. I am sure that calls from the Scotsman to HMFC would be welcomed as a means to pass out some rumour, spin or innuendo. All would help to get the support up for tomorrow's game!!

#25 Frail did a poor job last week. Poor tactics, poor team selection, poor substitutions. Anybody who touts elliot week in/ week out can't know that much about football.

Am i the only one who has picked up on the paragraph that makela is out for tomorrow. But hay not to worry cos Nade will play as will the worst striker in the spl elliot.

Still can't beleive that last week elliot took a shot at goal inside the 6 yard box and the ball went out for a throw in. If thats what i've got to look forward to tomorrow i think i'll give it a miss.

Are we now seeing a shift in policy from Vlad? With the sending back of Beniusis, Kurskis and Kancelskis to Kaunas and the the possible sale of Miko has the penny finally dropped?

Or has McGhee begun the process of telling Vlad the players he wants to get rid of. Vlad coming to Edinburgh tomorrow, possibly to meet McGhee to discuss transfer targets for next season.

Slightly optimistic but there seems to be a picture building here.

Lets not count our chickens, but if Djurgardens want some dosh,I'll happily chip in!

Change of subject watched reserves on Rankgers telly last night.
Terrible pitch, but sadly our better players were Ivaskevicius, Mole, Basso, but more promisingly Screpis.
He is composed on the ball and a good passer but maybe wants too much time, will have to adapt. Didnt seem able to strike a dead ball though.
Balatoni though looks a real decent player, him and Rapnik did ok, the goal apart, switched off late in the day. They need to grow a wee bit though I think to make it.

i used to stick up for the guy when he got a lot of flack of people because he used to be slightly amusing and was able to give a decent insight into some of the things we needed to know about lithuanian players etc, but he has chucked it completely now. the clone thing really p155ed my goat off and his continuall digs are always just identikit to his last.

Hearts are 5hit, Frail is incompetent, Jambos are racist (even though two of our posters here at least are in mixed race relationships), Lithuanians are the better players at hearts, Kauno are league of champions regulars (big happy), Labas, Vlad will destroy hearts, vlad will pick team etc...yawn ...etc...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Fans paying good money are entitled to boo players who deserve it.

If any of you had been at Tynie in the seventies the entire team were regularly boo-ed off the pitch at half time and full time.

And I mean regularly week in week out. HMFC were real dross in these days.

After his display in a Scotland jersey, his value will be around £500k as well.

Hope for some decent pre season signings.

#44 I haven't seen much of the reserves. I do however feel that screpis maybe worth a place on the wing. I've not seen a lot of Makela either (who has) but from what i remember he could head a ball. He is probably the type of striker hearts need against two tall, physical centre backs.

Last week hearts kept on putting crosses into the box but nobody was there to take advantage. Surley frail noticed this and will pick a striker who can hit the target when aiming at goal. Unlike elliot who will give away a throw in.
50

itsnomarooned,

28/03/2008 12:42:03
Worst part of the story for me is that Makela has "sustained a minor injury and is now rated doubtful"!! Did Frail boot him in the hee-haws or something to justify his continued non-includence when it's quite obvious to everyone and his dog that we're keech up front!

#45 As you seem to have resorted to agreeing with yourself, I'll step in and agree with you before you go a bit odd...
I've stood up for Serg in the past, pretend Lithuanian or not, he does spend an absurd amount of time researching everything vaguely Hearts related, so a useful tool to have. He was willing to go to the effort ot read accounts, match reports, Russian football agencies, etc etc just to convince some strangers he was actually Lithuanian. But as I say, sometimes useful - and occassionally amusing. Gone too far now though, same guano different day as it were...
Am slightly worried about what he'd do with his time if he wasn't spending his life researching Hearts stories, I can only hope his school project is on Lithuania this year, otherwise the last 2 years of his life have been a monumental waste of time. With the emphasis on the "mental"...

Elliott up front at home to Falkirk in a must win game.

Now the Utd game is a must win as well so I guess another 4-5-1 is on the cards.

I'm sure that with Vlad watching from the stands the players will try a bit harder, but will the Jambos be watching the game or shouting towards the directors box?

Another 4-0 humping from Craig Levein on the cards I'd suggest.

Is it a coincidence that Vlad comes over when Levein is at Tynecastle??

I will personally be disapointed to see Miko go, lets not kid ourselves, when he first came to Hearts (proper manager + coaching staff present) the guy had talent. He is still only 23 so I still feel he has something to offer us and if we can get a proper manager in place it would only benefit him. He was our best player against Falkirk and he has been improving ever since his return from injury when Fletcher nailed him in the scotland game. If most of the Hearts support would actually back the guy he might get some confidence back. Also Makela is p1sh and should never be near the first team, everytime I have seen him play I have been disapointed.

When serg' first apeared on he-rhino he was fairly amusing but since the cloning he has been nothing but a bat smell, spouting the same guano day after day. it is lucky we Jambo's have rhino like thick skins or his batty comments would actually get to us.

He has spent a rather large part of his life pretending to be someone else now and it reminds me of that old war film where the guy pretends to be insane to escape the POW camp, only to end up with a few bats in his belfray for real in the end. for his own good he should come clean, admit to who he really is and just contribute as himself instead.

Selling club, that's all you are.

I've often said that Miko has the potential to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo, and here you are now, on the verge of flogging him for half a million to a bigger club. Shocking. Why can't you keep your best players ?

If I was a Hearts fan, I'd be ready to take out a contract on Romanov.

That's Kurskis, Kancelskis, Beniusis and Miko all away from Tynie in the last week. They can't keep selling their best players otherwise they'll amount to nothing more than a bottom 6 team every year.

Right.....now that I've removed the tongue from my cheek, I will sit back and watch the dumplings who are actually reading this paragraph still get wound up and shout me down under a barrage of "Hobo" insults.

#69 I hate to knock folk on here, especially Jambos, when they post honestly but no no no!!

I'm afraid Miko is a symbol of all thats wrong. Diving, lack of effort/spirit and most of all, Vlad interference. With him gone it may lift some doubt, a massive cloud in my point of view, but I agree first time I saw him I thought he'd talent.

Sadly its beyond Miko the footballer now, even then, I wouldnt miss him, regardless of the baggage.

Right lets put one thing to bed, I dont know who started all the "hearts have 60+ first team players" guff but even if you include the 5 lithuanians who have been sent packing we had 29. We now have 24 and that includes Jason Thompson and Mole. Maybe if you include hearts u12 team and upwards we have 60+ players.

baffoons!!

Give me one fact that makes Hib's a bigger club than Hearts?

We won a game 30 odd years ago 7-0!! Yipee!!

#69 I agree about Miko, however for all parties i would perhaps be swayed into saying it would be better for all parties if he moved on. The guy can start afresh and not be a hate figure. Also as has been mentioned, i beleive hearts have a bad name with the SFA, and alot of this has to do with Gordon Smith singling out Miko for diving, no miko no conspiracy???

But i have to say I think you are a tad harsh on Makela....I MEAN NAME ANOTHER HEARTS PLAYER TO SCORE AGAINST BARCA!! haha. truthfully though, he has never had a run in the team so i cannot comment on his ability. Look at karapidis, everyone called him deadwood and rubbish, a wee run in the team in his natural position and he is a decent player with a good partnership with berra.

First club to have undersoil heating, first club invited into Europe, first club to play at aberdeens gaff with their shiny new floodlights, first pro club in europe to go 22 games against their local rivals in a top flight league without a win... it's all there in black and white, hibs are a massive juggernaught waiting to blow us away with FFF

i think that the kids who get the free breakfasts, tickets, merchandise etc love hearts. The families come to our memorial to remember the war dead are also i'm sure very fond of us and our memorial... Bad taste mate, what do Hibs do for anyone other than Farmer or petrie? I am going to the family day and my mate is bringing his daughter, what exactly do you have against this nice wee thing for the kids?

Nice move for Miko, thanks for the memories and good luck to you. I predict a 4 - 1 reversal against Utd tomorrow as they look to take maximum points in the drive for UEFA cup. Well at least it keeps the wee teamers out of the picture.

nice! didn't know that! this will astound...

if you place food at the centre of a maze and let a flat worm navigate it (turning back at dead ends and then going the other way) by trial and error it will eventually find the food and go the right way first time thereafter... BUT... If you then cut that worm up and feed it to a flat worm and pit that against one that has not eaten the first worm then the one that ate his coleague will go straight to the food whereas the other will still make wrong turns.

Like most others I will be glad to see the back of Miko - just another journeyman that Romanov plagued Hearts with in the hope of making a few quid on a transfer out.

Hearts have a bad name with the SFA due to Romanov, not Miko. The SFA are almost as tight as Petrie's wallet so were obviously upset that Vlad refused to pay his fines for so long and his constant slagging of them in the press, we are now paying the price. With regards to Makela, he has had a handful of games and apart from the Alloa game he has only netted once, which was due to a wonder cross from Beslija that even I would have scored. He was on loan for a good six months in which he would have got a good run in his natural position, he scored a huge 3 goals or something so the guiy is obviously deadly infront of goal. Bin him keep Miko i say.
#77 Miko's first booking for diving was against scotland and there are a lot of players who have recieved more and they arent labelled a diver. He is just a scape goat for hearts fan's for the current situation. I would rather have Miko coming off the bench than Ivaskevicous, the 1 footed wonder.

Straight from the UBIG Website claiming their 400,000 fans and 20th yes TWENTIETH BIGGGGGGGESSSTTT CLUB IN Britain.

BeLIEve you morons.
In 2005, UBIG became a shareholder in the Scottish football club Heart of Midlothian (generally called Hearts) and has been actively participating in its management since that time.
Established in 1874, Hearts is one of the oldest Scottish football clubs. Since then Hearts has won the Scottish League four times and has been runner-up on 14 other occasions. The club has won the Scottish Cup seven times—the last time in 2006. Hearts has also won the Scottish League Cup four times and is a regular participant in European tournaments. With more than 400,000 supporters, Hearts is among the twenty biggest clubs in the United Kingdom.

What news to come back to from lunch!! Had i known before I would have stayed longer and got the champers in!!

Slight dampner though, Elliot might play!! Frail only said 2 days ago that if you dont produce the goods you wont get a game! He was talking about Wallace keeping Jose out the team! I will agree with him there but what goods has Elliot produced?? He did have a cracking shot on goal last week mind you, almost hit someone in the Wheatfield Stand!!!!!
