HEARTS will collect a sizeable £2.4million transfer fee for Jose Goncalves next summer if German club Nuremberg invoke their option to sign the defender permanently.
The Evening News has learned that the pre-agreed price for Goncalves' is 3 million euros, applicable at the end of his season-long loan in Bavaria.

The sum is further evidence of Vladimir Romanov's determination to secure top dollar for any sellable asset.

Goncalves, reluctant to speak in great detail about the deal, confirmed the figure today. "That is the correct fee. Nuremberg have first option," he said.

A Portuguese under-21 internationalist, he cost £700,000 to lure from FC Thun in January 2006. He initially joined Hearts on loan from FBK Kaunas, the Lithuanian club financed by Romanov's Ukio Bankas Investment Group, but later became a fully fledged Tynecastle employee.

Romanov rejected a £1.3m offer from Celta Vigo for the player 12 months ago and could now secure an impressive profit of more than 200 per cent on his initial outlay.

Nuremberg intend to press for promotion from Germany's Bundesliga 2 this season, after which they will decide whether to sign Goncalves permanently.

If no deal is forthcoming the full-back will return to Tynecastle next summer.

Meanwhile, David Obua, the Ugandan internationalist, received work permit clearance yesterday to begin his Hearts career in earnest.

At an independent appeal hearing attended by manager Csaba Laszlo and managing director Campbell Ogilvie, the African was granted a UK permit and is expected to arrive in Edinburgh over the weekend but will not feature in Saturday's opening SPL fixture with Motherwell.

Obua joins Hearts from the South African club Kaizer Chiefs and is comfortable playing anywhere on the left flank or in an advanced midfield role behind the forward line.

Well done Vlad: assuming they take up their option another large fee for a player who was directley responsible for a large % of the goals we lost last season.

Great piece of business there, Bednar did not look interested and we got a tidy sum.

Jose has looked out of sorts and ackward for a while, so happy with a couple million for him.

Queue the haters writing...hearts won't see the money...he was contracted to blah blah...as far as i see it the cash goes into a big Lithuanian bank pot for Hearts/Kaunas.

If Kaunas do well an qualify for europe it will probably help hearts anyways.

And the fact that the Flute Playing Loyal Queens Servants from the West are out of europe and cash strapped, the rest of the SPL can reel them in again. Predictions for there next washed up ex-scot international signing post Davie Weir and Christian Daily....Barry Ferguson...oh he plays for them already....boom boom

Great news for Hearts - possibly one of the worst defenders I have ever seen wear the maroon jersey. Possibly the only defender in the world that cant tackle, cant pass, cant head the ball, has no sense of positioning - on a positive note he did have a good third touch.

Vlad is brilliant at getting top dollar for players.
Hartley was going for £250k before Vlad. £1.2m
Gordon was going for £250k plus Gallager to Cardiff. £9m
£2.5m for injury prone Bednar.
£750k profit after one season on Rudi.

Hearts are growing stronger under Mr Romanov.

#15, what you've said about vlad's ability to get top dollar for players is spot on, but whisper it quietly, some people don't want to hear it because they are still too upset that george burley isn't here anymore, can't bring themselves to admit that vlad does things well as well as some things badly.

Big Yin 1,

I think it's a great piece of business by Vlad if Jose goes. He was too inconsistant for my liking and to get 2.4m for him is fantastic. Gone are the days of selling our players to the west for next to nothing.

19

Newcastle Jambo,

07/08/2008 12:23:20
I have to admit this seems a good piece of business - big fee for an average player. I didn't think Bednar's loan and sale was good business as he could have made a big difference to the team last season and this if fully fit and motivated and 17 goals (or so) in the Championship last season would back that up. Now we have Laszlo saying he'd need to spnd big money to get a top class striker but we had one. Arguably we had another in Velicka but Romanov wanted to cash in on him to benefit Kaunas not Hearts, also regretably.
20

Glorious Hearts,

07/08/2008 12:23:46
Assuming the deal is definitely in euros, they might have been better off getting a fee for him now when the pound is so weak against the euro.
Currency fluctuations could make a big difference in the actual pound sterling figure received if the deal does go ahead.

Excellent piece of business. Even more so considering Jose signed an extension to his deal the day he was loaned to Nuremburg, thus making him more costly for Nuremburg to purchase. £700,000 turned into £2.4million in 3 years.

Main problem was he seemed to lapse into thinking he was a central defender and leaving his wing wide open. Let's just hope Obua is all he's hyped up to be as young Lee has his shortcomings too. Good luck to Jose - hope he does well as we could use the dosh.

remember craig gordon?

it was only because romanov gave gordon £15K per week and got him signed up that he became the £9M asset that he turned out to be. without that shrewd foresight, gordon was worth a fraction of that.

it is a disgrace that it took so long for people to begin to recognise what romanov did with that. indeed there are still people around (not having a go at people on here) who see the gordon transfer as some kind of asset stripping.

Velicka: for the best part he was average over his period with Hearts. Had a '3 month purple patch'. Will start less than 10% of rangers games.

No doubt VLAD was to blame for two pathetic seasons but he is no ones mug re maximising players values. Also CRYSTAL CLEAR PROOF now that he is indeed far too intelligent to continue massaging his ego therein simaltaneously devaluing his own Club.

#31 CJ, good point.

romanov has been making noises recently about being very happy with csaba and how he now, at last, feels able to take a back seat from football matters and let csaba get on with it.

to me that is another very typical piece of shrewdness from vlad.

he was never going to come out say he was wrong to interfere in team affairs, he's to much of an egotist for that. he was never going to admit any mistakes.

what better way to bow out of making a right mess of team affairs than to appoint a manager and make out that he is now in a position to relinquish control because the manager is capable of operating without vlad's expert help.

let's hope he sticks to it.

#38 J-r, another great point.

if csaba makes a mess of it, what does vlad do?

if he does nothing then he could be slated for allowing the mess to continue.

if he sacks him then he could be slated for sacking yet another manager and being seen to be interfering again.

if he gets one of his placemen to make changes then he could be slated for yet more meddling.

let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Remember though , Vlad was lucky with that one.
Romanov wanted to sell CG to a Russian club at the end of February that year. The price he asked was £5m.
An agreement was eventually struck at £4.1m but CG turned it down having told Vlad "I will decide where I go and it won't be to Russia" . Guess who was not happy.Right on cue CG was then dropped for a number of games where Banks deputised and lost only one goal (played brilliantly).
Selling CG to the EPL was a tad fortuitous rather than by design. Could the Russian club have been St. Petersburg ???????????????????????Can't remember.

#48 busby, very much still here-say about the russian clubs bids etc, as far as i'm aware.

the fact remains that the £9M asset gordon was created by vlad and his ability to get gordon signed up on a longer contract. without that he was barely worth £2M because he only had a year left.

he would also have created a sizable asset in webster if he had been sensible in accepting his new contract offer. unfortunately for the idiot player and hearts, the rest was history.

This is interesting. Seems media reports about Obua being rejected by West Ham were untrue (Not the first time the media have got it wrong)

"New Hearts signing David Obua today revealed he rejected the Barclays Premier League and Serie A to pursue his footballing dream at Tynecastle."

"West Ham United and Italian cracks Chievo were both keen to secure the services of the Ugandan internationalist but David says there was only one team for him once he knew Csaba Laszlo wanted to bring him to Edinburgh."

"Since I got back home I had been waiting and hoping for the best as regards the work permit," said the versatile midfielder, who is Csaba's first signing since his appointment as Hearts boss."

"Obviously I was delighted when I heard the news and I am excited at the prospect of playing for Hearts this season."

"It is always the manager's influence which has a bearing on a player and I have worked with Csaba for the past two years with Uganda. He is the person who has really made me who I am today. West Ham United and Chievo were interested in signing me but Csaba is the reason I decided to come to Hearts."

Personally, I don't read Serg much......so I'm not clear what you allege.......but what I HAVE read didn't seem to have a "political" content.
As for "coloured"/"black".........you're simply WRONG......you more than most should know that many asians do NOT wish to be referred to as "black"...for the very good reason (they tell me) that they are NOT black.....and I'll accept that........so with that in mind, I'd judge that, on balance, it's better to continue with the more inclusive descriptive word I used in my earlier post.
What a pity you can't raise your comments beyond the pedantic,...but hey....it's just what we've come to expect from an unemployable "Gorgie High" education.......Eh CORGY??

It might have escaped the attention of some, but I'm not always the HuUMPS biggest fan,...but regardless of who he plays for... we need to accord this bloke every respect as an individual, and judge him only on his qualities both as a man, and as a footballer.
I've seen no evidence to suggest that he hasn't been proven to be entitled to work here following the usual(tough) scrutiny, and the SPL decision seems to have been arrived at after due and correct process..
I won't lie in my teeth to say that I hope he turns out to be a worldbeater,(hey, this is Hearts we're talking about here, much-ach0s) but I DO hope that fans of Hearts, and every other club, treat the guy on these bases, rather than any possiblecheap jokes about his colour...(but be clear I do not accuse you personally of same).
Most clubs in Scotland have/have had coloured/foreign players by this time, and it's about time that any players ethnicity fell off the radar in ALL fans minds...but if they're here correctly under the rules, let's do our best to welcome ALL these imports...within numerical reason, .......don't they just add to the wider flavour of our game....and let's weed out ANY (players, fans, clubs alike)who'd have it differently. Racism has no place in the game.

Black & Minority Ethnic
In the absence of a single acceptable terminology, the term “ Black & Minority Ethnic Groups” has been
used throughout this report. For us, this term refers to those individuals, or groups, who experience
discrimination and inequalities associated with race, ethnicity, language, culture and / or religion.
Black:
This term does not relate to skin colour, but is the accepted terminology used to describe the visible minority of African or Caribbean origin who share the common experience of racism.

2.4 million ideal for us and him best wishes Jose, hope you do well for them.
Great bit of business with the first new signing, can't wait to see him play. Should be in the mould of Kingston if he is well sought after and i'm hoping he is as good as him.

#76 Vic. Nothing would surprise me after the racist comments posted last night.

When he clones it is so obvious as he makes negative comments about Hearts, but was surprised at the racist tone last night. He was referring to Africans with words such as n*g n*gs, K**ns, etc. Really vile posts.

He's a total saddo - it's not like he's a young laddie. A sad little nonc3

Kingston could take the whole of your midfield on by himself.

Mixu not been sacked yet, seems the tw at element of the brain dead/hobo hordes from the area of drugs and sin and disease are out in force today on a Hearts story as per usual.

Mixu must stay and i hope he is still the manager by October, can't wait for that one.

#75 SAK: you should have started and ended your post with 'correct'.....ie there are plusses & minusses.

Here are the positives(generically)
1. Scottish Cup win.
2. Split the old firm.
3. Qualified for CL.
4. Brought in players of the highest calibre(incl CL winner/Euro championship winner)
5. Funded the retention of our quality players(eg gordon/Hartley)
6. obtained max return on underperforming players(eg Scakel(although many would disagree)/bednar/Gonval)
7. Catalyst 30% increase in season tickets/average attendances.
8. Brought some of the best young players in Europe to our Academy(eg Slovakia under 17 captain)
9. sevens scheme
10.Community award.
Bored now leave you to name the other 96 generic negatives to justify your 10fold comment(i'll give u the 1st four: sacked Burley/constantly interferes with management/statements embaress HMFC/sold Velicka)

I am sick of being deemed guilty by association with that racist little animal and the sooner he is properly policed the better... He is a racist and we should not have to suffer his rantings.

I have no more wish to discuss the matter however and would like instead to say... Good luck Jose... Make us some money!!

Can only hope the Scotsman Publications have his IP address and forward it to the relevant authorities. As each day passes Iam becoming more convinced Biley is in fact Serg and TommyTommy as well as a few other names on here, the posts and views are all far to similar for them to all to different people

#88/#89 Dunno what he's up to (and doubt if he does either to be honest). Caught him out yesterday lying about no Jambos taking issue with racist postings in the past from someone purporting to be a BNP Hearts' fan. As usual he wouldn't admit it but now this? The better the news gets for us the more desparate he's becoming and resorting to all kinds of stupidity. Clearly imbalanced.

Come to think of it just when WAS the last time Hibs finished 2nd in the league?

(Cue another speach from the racist about posts being reported by myself and others.....When they contain filth like he has posted I WILL OPENLY REPORT HIM) I have no qualms or problems reporting any of that racists posts from now on, and in fact would urge all decent like minded people to do the same, as well as copy his posts so a thorough dosir can be made to send to The Scotsman Publications and if need be The Press Complaints Commission, if the Scotsman fail to take necessary action to rid us of hs filth and bile

#108 - The tournament Hearts qualified for by finishing 2nd is called the Champions League. It has several stages - Qualifying stage, Group stages, Knockout stage. By your logic, the knockout stage and the final itself are not part of the Champions League as they are not a league format, and yet the winners are crowned Champions League winners - explain that. It's all one tournament - how hard is that to understand?
