PORT SETON power-lifter Mary Anderson has broken six more world records in the World Drug-Free Championships in Evansville, Indiana.
The 41-year-old former Scottish 400 metres and heptathlon champion captured three titles in the under-80 kilo weight division on home territory at Grangemouth last year and set World Masters records in three lifts, the bench press, squat and dead lif
t.
But, despite the long journey, Anderson doubled her World record tally this time with lifts of 93.5 kilo (bench), 160k (squat) and 192.5k (dead lift), beating her own records in the latter two lifts.
That was in the "unequipped" section of the championships in which the lifter is not allowed to wear any wraps or supporting suits.
The following day in the "equipped" events Anderson lifted considerably more: 110k bench press; 190k squat and 212.5k dead lift for a 512.5k total, which broke a 12-year-old record.
Five times the Scottish shot putt champion and twice a javelin champion, Anderson, who takes "boxercise" classes at Port Seton Community Centre, won the last of her 11 national athletics titles in 1989 and has personal trainer John Wynne to thank for getting her in shape for her latest record bonanza.
"Things had not being going well and he brought me on," said Anderson, who confessed: "It's a bit annoying to have missed out on two records."
