THE highest-ranking climbing competition in the UK takes place in the Capital this weekend when the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho hosts The British Team Trials 2008.
Up to 100 climbers aged 12 and above will compete on two new climbing walls – the Hanger Wall and the Speed Wall.

EICA manager Graeme Gardiner said: "This sends out the message that our competition wall facilities are the best in the country for preparing competitors for international-level competition. The new walls further strengthen our position as the best facility in the Europe for climbing at both an amateur and professional level."

Local competition climbers Jamie Davidson, Eleanor Hopkins, Ross Kirkland, Jonny Field, Jasmine Ryan and Jessica McKaskey, who are part of the EICA coaching programme, have entered this weekend's event.

EICA is the largest indoor climbing centre in the world. Its two new climbing walls were funded by Edinburgh Leisure and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh & Lothians.

EICA has already been confirmed as host of the European Youth Cup 2009 and the World Youth Championship 2010.
