A YEAR ago, you'd be hard pushed to find a club night dedicated to burlesque in Edinburgh. Sure, popular nights like Vegas are noted for their vaudeville elements, but fans of the erotic spectacle have never had it easy locating burlesque club nights in the Capital, the majority being one-off underground occasions.
But that's all set to change when Fanteaseya, Edinburgh's very own burlesque-dedicated club, officially launches tomorrow night at Luna Night Club on Picardy Place.

As club organiser Miss Madison Rose says, it's been a long time coming. "Burlesqu
e has enjoyed a slow revival but it's quickly picked up a lot over the last year," she smiles.

Think of burlesque and you imagine Hollywood glamour, striptease, cocktails and chubby kick-lines. Indeed, some of the finest burlesque dancers around – Viva Misadventure, Daiquiri Dusk and Sakura Tsui – will be at Luna tomorrow to tantalise throughout the evening, as well as Fanteaseya's Belles - Miss Madison herself and club organising partner, Calliope Cootch.

"I've always loved the vintage era, it's the most glamorous," says Miss Madison, who normally wears a white lab coat (a scientist by day) when she's not wearing a corset and indulging in Victorian-era decadence.

"Calliope and I met at Dance Base earlier this year and Fanteaseya evolved from our meeting. It's fitting that we'll be running the night from within a post-war ballroom and the dancers we have are all good professionals.

"We want to build up a community in Edinburgh as well as the UK, and we ensure they're paid right, that everything is above board and that everyone has a great time."
