Nick Revell: Sleepless
Gilded Balloon, Teviot
COMEDIANS are masochists. A Max Moseley-esque love of pain is surely the only thing that can explain their desire to stand under hot lights in front of a group of complete strangers and allow them to judge their work. Facing an audience small enough to have shared a taxi to the Gilded Balloon's appropriately named Wee Room, Nick Revell demonstrated a higher threshold than most.

Delivering some exceptionally clever, hand-crafted gags, Revell deserved much better than the response he received. Perhaps self- conscious about laughing in such a small gathering, the audience chose to show polite appreciation rather than wild enthusiasm.
