POLICE today appealed for witnesses after a 72-year-old woman was seriously hurt when she was struck by a car in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon.
The accident happened about 4.30pm on Drum Brae North. The woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a grey VW Golf, which was travelling south from Queensferry Road.

The road was closed for around two hours while a full investigation was carried out.

A police spokeswoman said: "This has been a very serious collision which left the woman with severe injuries which required urgent medical attention.

"We are asking for anyone who was in the area of Drum Brae South yesterday afternoon and saw the incident to contact police to help with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
