A Philadelphia man had no idea he had been stabbed and was walking around with a knife sticking out of his back until somebody told him.
The man said someone had hit him in the back, but he thought he had just been punched.

He was taken to a hospital where doctors removed the knife.

I'm sure if we trawled around the world we could find quirky stories like this but why is it in an Edinburgh local newspaper?

I was talking to someone whose friend was stabbed. Apparently this is a quite normal sensation. The physical action of stabbing is much the same as punching. It depends on the size and thickness of the blade how easy it is to feel it. The back does not have the same density of nerve endings as other parts of the body.

Also have none of you inadvertently cut your hand with a sharp blade. Often it is only the blood that alerts you to the fact that you have been cut.

I therefore conclude that posters numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are ignorant thickos.

#10 Vincent-W,
Actually Vincent anytime I've been cut it was the pain of that action that alerted me to the fact I just had been cut, not noticing blood at a later stage.
This doesn't make me an ignorant thicko but rather someone who is aware of things happening around me and to me.
Accidents happen and thus the cuts but pain is there as a reminder so that something can be done about it, the only time the feeling of pain is not present is if a person has gone into shock or the person has been numbed for other reasons such as being cold or whatever the case may be.
I have also broken my back and believe me the pain is there, instantly.

POSTMARK,-55,

Well, having nearly had my thumb taken off with Stanley knife I can assure you that I was unaware of the cut until I detected the blood dripping on my shoe. The actual cut was virtually painless.

So calling people no brained for not feeling the pain is a gross insult - hence my ignorant thicko response.

The individual in question may have felt more pain from the 'punch', than the knife blade, which may have penetrated only a few centimetres.
