MOTORISTS are being offered free evening and Saturday car parking over the next two months.
The initiative, introduced by Edinburgh City Council at the weekend, will run until January 10 at a cost of £36,000 a month. Drivers can park after 5.30pm, between Monday and Friday, in on-street pay-and-display bays, as well as every Saturday after 1pm in the city centre, West End, Old Town, Tollcross and the Grassmarket. Transport convener Phil Wheeler said: "We know from previous years that this is a particularly popular initiative for those who like to be able to bring their car into town."

Now in its third year, the council's initiative is backed by the Open For Business campaign, along with the Essential Edinburgh Business Improvement District.

Some yellow line restrictions may still apply.

Big hairy deal - one hour off in the evening (it used to be free after 5:30 anyway a few years back), and the afternoon on a Saturday (that was free back then too).

That'll have them flooding in from Almondvale.........
