PLANS to refer patients from parts of west Edinburgh to St John's in Livingston have been rubber-stamped by NHS bosses.
Despite fierce criticism from patient watchdogs and councillors, board members of NHS Lothian approved the idea.

It will mean people in areas such as Blackhall, South Gyle and Colinton will be encouraged to travel to West Lothian rather than the nearby Western General or ERI.

In addition, patients in places like Ratho and Balerno will be referred to St John's by their GP.

Health chiefs said it was necessary to spread the workload around the Lothians' three acute hospitals, and said it wouldn't mean much more than an extra ten minutes on to people's journeys.

The real dracula,

It would certainely take the pressure off the ERI.
As would contacting NHS24 or your GP rather thn turning up in A&E with a problem that is NOT an emergency !!!!!
