New powers for local areas

WEST Lothian's nine local area committees have been given decision-making powers to help them shape local services.
Proposed new powers for local area committees include giving them more control over traffic calming measures, parking restrictions, street naming, town centre improvements, antisocial under-age drinking initiatives, Christmas decorations and even local planning matters.

Local area committees will also become formal committees of the council and subject to its standing orders, under the moves approved by the Council Executive.
