A RAFT of measures to improve Bathgate town centre have been put forward following a public consultation last month.
Over 120 members of the public took part in the consultation, commissioned by Enterprising Bathgate and West Lothian Council.

Ironside Farrar, a firm of environmental consultants, produced guidelines for the consultation.

Three projects have already been put forward for immediate action. These include the removal of a planter outside Hugh Black Butchers on George Street, and the removal of daylight barriers in adjacent shops.

Actions also include tree crown lifting along George Street and the Steelyard, and the removal of the central tree along the northern edge of the Steelyard to improve visibility and security.

West Lothian Council has pledged to plant new trees in a different location to make up for the loss of the obstructing tree.

See that central tree, that central tree's been a pure scunner for years. It's the talk of the town. Whenever we gather to discuss civic matters it's always top of the agenda. That tree, we say, is the cause of the complete lack of amenity in the town centre. The very day that tree was planted British Leyland, Plessey, Motorola and Martins the Bakers shut down. Cut down that tree we always say, and prosperity will return to our historic and once proud town.
As soon as Livingston is bulldozed and we all go back to the 1960s that is.

Forget removing the planters. What about Councillor Glass and the rest of the numpties? That should do the trick.

They employed and paid for a firm of consultants to come up with the idea of moving a planter fi the butchers shop and trimming a couple of trees. It's reassuring to know that your taxes are being spent wisely by those souls down at the cooncil.

A raft full of crates of alcohol will keep Bathgate very happy.
