DERBY winger Kris Commons aims to keep improving his consistency as he bids to hold on to a starting spot for Scotland.
The Mansfield-born player came in to the starting line-up for Shaun Maloney as George Burley's men lost 1-0 to Argentina on Wednesday night.
Burley claimed Commons was Scotland's best player as the 25-year-old completed 90 minutes on his fourth ca
p for his adopted country. And he hopes his display can help him keep his place for the World Cup qualifier against Holland in March.
"I've been doing okay for my club and scoring a couple of goals," Commons said. "The withdrawals this week pushed me up the pecking order. Hopefully, I've kept myself in the mind of George that, come Holland, I'm ready to start again.
"When you look at the bench, there is Shaun Maloney at Celtic, a good winger. There is plenty of competition. Hopefully, if I keep doing well at Derby, George will come and see what I can do."
Commons Qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents. "I'm getting used to the lads and playing. I've got family from Scotland who are pleased as punch. To see them up there in the stand is great – I feel their confidence and passion as well. I always try to give 100 per cent and work myself into the ground."
